When a tooth can’t be saved — or wisdom teeth are causing problems — careful evaluation and clear aftercare matter. Nuvo Dental offers in-house tooth extractions and wisdom tooth evaluations with Dr. Pedro Ramirez, DMD, using local anesthesia and imaging when needed. When a tooth needs to come out (and when we try to save it)

Extraction is recommended when a tooth is too damaged by decay, fracture, or infection to restore predictably, or when keeping it would harm neighboring teeth or your bite. Whenever it’s reasonable, we discuss saving options first — such as a filling, crown, or root canal — so you can make an informed choice. You’ll get a clear explanation before any tooth is removed.

Wisdom tooth evaluation

Wisdom teeth (third molars) don’t always need removal. We look at your symptoms, how the teeth are erupting, and images such as panoramic X-rays — and CBCT when more detail helps. Crowding, partial eruption, decay, gum problems around the tooth, or cysts are among the reasons removal may be advised. If a case is beyond what we treat in-office, we’ll discuss referral honestly.

Comfort: local anesthesia only

Extractions at Nuvo Dental are done with local anesthesia so the area is numb. We do not offer sedation on this page’s services. Tell us about anxiety, medical conditions, or medications before your appointment so we can plan comfortably and safely. Learn more on our anesthesia information page.

Aftercare and recovery

Most people feel better within a few days; more involved extractions can take longer. We’ll give you written aftercare instructions covering biting on gauze, ice, soft foods, oral hygiene around the site, and what to avoid (such as smoking or using straws while healing). Call us if pain worsens after the first couple of days, if bleeding doesn’t slow, or if you have fever or swelling that concerns you.

Replacing an extracted tooth

Leaving a gap can allow neighboring teeth to shift and make chewing harder. Replacement options include a dental implant, a bridge, or a partial denture. Implant consultations at Nuvo Dental are paid visits — never advertised as free — and may include 3D imaging. Financing through Cherry or CareCredit may be available for treatment, subject to approval.
